Match 17 – Monkhall 31/10/2020

Swallow Pool

8 fished

Report by Trev.

Fishing conditions were atrocious on the day with high winds and rain, the results were a bit of a miss mash. Within the first two hours I think everybody would have packed up and gone home as brollys been blown inside out and sections of poles blown across the paths.

The better results coming from the right-hand side of the pool, with Terry, Martin, Dan and Dave, but I think everyone was relieved when the all-out whistle was blown. Simon Garbett had already packed up and left early. Although we were all having a laugh and joke about the conditions of the day when we finished.

As there will be no presentation night due to the COVID we will have a mini presentation at the AGM in Jan all being well .

So the committee myself, Micky and Martin would like to wish all the members a safe and happy Xmas and New Year, we will be in touch later with a date for the AGM and where it will be held

Many congratulations to Terry for posting a hat trick of wins. He continued his good form on the Swallow Pool at Monkhall, by putting 104-0 onto the scales from peg 2. Simon Harris took second place with 90-0, narrowly beating Barry who weighed in with 88-0.

Terry’s consecutive wins have catapulted him 😉 up to second place on the leader board behind Guy who remains at the top with consistent match points. We weighed in a total of 801lb at this match.

Match 2 – Monkhall 14/04/2019

Swallow Pool

16 fished

Swallow pool (20 pegs) is home to f1s from 1lb to 7lb. Carp from 6oz to 10lb, chub to 3lb, small tench and crucians, and ide. Shallow fishing and paste are great methods in the summer, while fishing pellets bread and maggots in winter. You can’t help but appreciate this excellent venue, the cleanliness and maintenance that has gone into making this one of the best fisheries around. The pool has a stone path around it, taking you to the generously sized wooden platforms, fishery supplied landing nets and keep nets are stored close to each peg.

Rob McKee continued his impressive form catching f1s from the whistle from the far side of peg 2, due to a cold gusting wind that swim could not be maintained on the pole. So ringing the changes, switched to down the track and later to the margins, with the fish feeding shallow on 4mm expanders even in the cold temperatures. On the wider side of the pool, Martin McHugh was aiming for top spot from peg 11, and looked set for a win – finding carp and f1s on the pellet feeder and 8mm hard pellet. With 2 wins out of 2 matches Rob is the early leader in the points – can anyone catch him?

Different tactics were used to bag up for 1st and 2nd place

Match 10 – Monkhall 11/08/2018

Lark Pool

The session got off to a great start, before everyone had set up on their pegs, Brian threw his keep net in forgetting that he needed to keep hold of the open end LOL (he did manage to retrieve it and set up okay after that). Once the whistle went  everyone was catching from the start.  Some on feeder, others on pole either long or short, so everything looked in favour of big winning weights.   Banter around the pool, was that Rob, Dan, Terry, Mickey and Simon were all catching well, it would be down to the stamp of fish they were all catching to determine who would make the frame.

Mickey was fishing feeder to the island, and was hitting the mark every time, impressive casting – which was being rewarded with good fish throughout the match.  Rob was plundering carp on the tip of the island on long pole. Terry was catching well on feeder to the island on the opposite side of the pool to Rob.  Meanwhile Martin and I were being frustrated by margin carp – tails in the air – sail away bites and nothing on the hook.

We weighed in a total over 773lb. Well done everyone.

Match 10 – Monkhall 19/08/2017

Swallow Pool

Due to unconfirmed problems with the Owl pool, we were kindly re-arranged onto the swallow pool which could accommodate all of us.  Allowing the usual open to fish the lark pool. Kev was on his usual peg on this pool, he can’t stop drawing peg 13 on here, a corner peg with the wind blowing in his direction, so he sat fishing with his back to the rest of us.  He didn’t stop catching right up to the final whistle and more.   Read more of this post
